Transformation Strategy
The Goal for the communities of Grand Goave and Jacmel are to see the local Churches be empowered, encouraged and equipped to bring about sustainable transformation to their communities that address the Spiritual, Economical, Social, and Physical needs that have been identified.
Ministry Events
These are the ministry activities and events that we help facilitate to bring sustainable transformation in each of the communities.
Men’s Conferences: Men’s meetings or over-night retreats that encourage and lead men to a greater understanding of what it means to follow Christ. These conferences would be for unbelievers as well as for encouraging and equipping believers.
Women’s Conferences: Meetings or retreats that encourage and help women of all ages and stages in life to grow in faith and spiritual maturity through a relationship with Jesus Christ and an understanding of God’s love and grace.
Church Leadership Training: Events to equip Pastors, Youth and other leaders to better serve their community and churches
Teacher Training: Help encourage and equip teachers so that the learning experience can become more effective and efficient. Training will not only focus on teaching methods but class room management as well.
Water Filter Distribution: Sponsoring Water Filters that provide safe, clean drinking water for families. These filters also provide a great way to share the Gospel with the families.
Youth Rallies/Camps: Youth events or over-night retreats that help students see Christ in a relevant way.
Youth Recreation Programs: Use sports camps to not only teach the sport but also to teach Fairness, Respect and Teamwork while at the same time helping to develop a recreation league for the city. We will also be seeking out individuals to train and encourage to become coaches who will facilitate the league(s).
Counseling: Using individuals with experience and gifts in the area of counseling to provide seminars that would help people who are dealing with depression, stress, and difficulties due to the earthquake and other situations that they are affected by.
Character Counts: Working with the public schools to help students understand the importance of Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship. This is done through assemblies and game-type activities that teach and encourage these values.
Business Leadership Training: Assist business owners in improving their productivity, marketing and business management so that they can become more effective.
Job Creation and Development: Conducting further research on the opportunities that may be available for business development and micro financing. Once opportunities have been identified we would begin implementing them.
Marriage Seminars: Events and seminars that would give couples the tools they need to build a marriage that brings glory to God.
Cup by Cup
Global Effect has partnered with Amavida coffee to make a difference! Global Effect and Amavida Coffee have come together to create “Cup by Cup” coffee which offers 100% organic, fair-trade coffee and brings about sustainable change in impoverished communities. Amavida joins the Spanish words “amar” (love) and “vida” (life). Our coffee is purchased directly from growers with whom Amavida has personal relationships around the world. This partnership allows Global Effect to take the proceeds from every coffee purchase and return it to the impoverished communities where we are serving and equipping them to transform their socioeconomic, physical and spiritual conditions. This is done through our community transformation projects that create sustainable change.
Economic Development & Micro Lending
Global Effect has initiated a business incubation and micro-lending platform in the Dominican Republic. This is a clear need and a logical “next” step as Global Effect seeks to bring about deep transformation in the communities we are serving. The platform is designed to educate, equip, and support local entrepreneurs with the ultimate goal to be increased employment and a higher standard of living. Many loans were approved this summer ranging from $200-$1,000 (US) with a wide variety of businesses including retail clothing, woodworking, sewing co-ops, food distribution, a mobile convenience store, beauty shop, barber shop, and other small business ventures.
